Guidelines for illness

If the staff at the preschool determines that your child is ill, they will inform you so that you will be able to arrange pick-up of the child. Additionally, it provides you the opportunity to plan for tomorrow. It is always the child’s general condition that determines whether the child will be staying at the preschool. The child’s condition must be so good that it can participate in all activities that occur both indoor and outdoor of the preschool. This is for the benefit of the child’s stay at the preschool as well as possible and for the best of the group of children. Keep in mind that the impressions and the pace at preschool is different than at home.

  • Gastroenteritis (diarrhea and vomiting), the child should be at home 48 hours after the last symptoms exhibited, started eating regular food again and for the child to have a normal bowel movement (about two days after showing symptoms). Stomach flu is highly contagious. It’s therefore appropriate that siblings are kept at home then they are likely already infected.
  • Eye Infection: is highly contagious especially for young children. The child should be kept at home during the time it is ”smear” from the eyes. If you do not see an improvement after five days you should consult a doctor.
  • Fever: the child should be without fever during 24 hours before it returns to pre-school.
  • Cold: most infectious when it just erupted. The child should stay home until there is no fever and general condition is good. This is to cope with the pre-school activities.
  • Impetigo (swine pox) the child should be home to smallpox stopped ”smear”. Wash with soap and water, if necessary, use Microcid ointment. (without a prescription at the pharmacy)
  • Worms/Head Lice: Treat according to the pharmacy’s instructions.

When the child is treated with antibiotics/penicillin, it should be at home for at least two days. At the preschool, we don’t give the kids any medication, other than life-sustaining medications and then only after the education of parents alternative health professionals.
After an infection, the child is more susceptible to new infections. Therefore, do not hurry back to preschool.
When the child are subject to a throat/nose or similar test, the child should be at home until the test result is clear (eg streptococci).
At absence please call us before 08:00 and call the day before the child comes back to preschool.
